11 days in Taiwan: Day 6 from Taichung to Hualien

July 27, 2015
hualien, justice bao, gongzhengbaozi

Last morning in Taichung and my biggest regret was not trying one of the breakfast shops near my homestay. Regardless, after packing my loots, I had to drop off the minsu keys at the letterbox, flag a cab for Taichung HSR and set off for Taipei before changing to the TRA to Hualien. I was […]

11 days in Taiwan: Day 5 in Park Lane by CMP

May 27, 2015
View at Park Lane by CMP

I think Park Lane by CMP is a relatively new development. It’s a vibrant area with a cool museum, park and Eslite (just about the most popular hangout bookstore in Taiwan) and you just can’t miss it if you are in Taichung for the weekend. If I had to voice out one grouse, it’s the […]

11 days in Taiwan: Getting to 921 Earthquake Museum on day 4

April 18, 2015
outdoor exhibiti in 921 earthquake museum of taiwan

I expended almost all my energy the previous day and just wanted to sleep in for the day but the lure of cheap and good breakfast in Taiwan compelled me to get up for a meal.

11 days in Taiwan: Day 3 in Lavender Cottage

April 9, 2015
lavender cottage entrance taiwan

After a bumpy 2 hours drive from Sun Moon Lake, we finally got to the elusive Lavender Cottage (薰衣草森林). Along the way, we spotted signs tied onto lamp posts and trees to encourage drivers to press on; it was that deep inside the mountains. The farm is like a secret garden dreamt up by two […]

11 days in Taiwan: Day 3 in Sun Moon Lake

April 6, 2015
ferries at sun moon lake

Day three was a real hectic day as we were driving from Cingjing to Sun Moon Lake, then to Xinshe, before reaching Taichung to settle down. I am not too sure what we were thinking but we only spent a short two hours in Sun Moon Lake so be prepared for an extremely condensed itinerary […]

11 days in Taiwan: Day 2 in Cingjing

March 29, 2015
Cherry blossoms in Cingjing Taichung Taiwan

I missed my HSR to Taichung that morning. My cousin and her boyfriend who were supposed to join me in Taiwan that day were also late as their flight was delayed by 3 hours. As a result, neither of us could make it at 8:00 AM to meet our driver who will drive us up […]

  • Dreaming of a getaway...
  • Happy Valentine’s Day @kehchoonwee! 🥰
  • Throwback to team lunch at Stellar in one of tallest buildings in Singapore. The interior was nice, food was great, service good but just slightly curt, view was fabulous! Overall, it seems like a great choice of venue for date night. :)
  • Couldn’t resist these colored churros at Disneyland. 😍
  • New favorite lunch haunt recommended by a colleague. Fu Lin is one eccentric hybrid of a restaurant. The establishment serves yong tau foo in the day, then transforms into a bar at night (hence the shelves of liquor in the background of the picture). Yong tau foo is a common Chinese dish in Singapore where the diner gets to pick some ingredients, usually with a couple of tofu variants, then order it with noodles or rice. If you’re having it at Fu Lin, you must pick the fried ingredients and have it with their specialty meat gravy! Best YTF I’ve eaten so far.
  • Visited the Kwan Im temple at Bugis today and spotted the elaborate and beautiful Sri Krishan Hindu temple bedecked with Chinese New Year decorations. Some devotees on their way to the adjacent Chinese temple will also stop to pay respect to the gods. Such scenes are always heartening to see. 😊
  • Sunset by the rainbow bridge in Odaiba, Tokyo. Odaiba was built on a man-made island and features an imaginative and futuristic landscape. One of the iconic landmarks there is the rainbow bridge which lights up in a kaleidoscope of colours at night. The other must-see attraction is probably the life-sized Gundam statue in front of DiverCity. The statue moves!
  • This photo was taken in Cing Jing, Taiwan. The farm (actually more like an entire area) is a welcomed respite from the vibrant city life with its clear air and lush greenery. Its name, when taken literally, translates to the clear realm.
It’s quite inaccessible by public transport so hiring a driver is very much recommended. The entire area is also littered with numerous homestays; if you’re looking for one, I’ll highly recommend Fon Chin (Julie’s Garden)! :)
